Mustache Bash

Saturday was my baby shower, and it was great to see everyone! I'm feeling pretty lucky to have such amazing family and friends in my life. I can't wait for Baby "H" to meet all of you!

Diana Daniel Wise made the cupcakes, and they were sooooo yummy. The theme for the shower was mustaches and ties!

I've been snapping a picture of my belly every week for most of the pregnancy, so Jackie requested all of the pics to display at the shower. It's pretty crazy to see how I've grown over the past 34 weeks!

There was plenty of food and drink, and Baby H was showered with tons of gifts! I'm so glad there were several little ones around to help me open all the gifts!

The kids were all so well behaved, and I think they had a pretty good time as well!

With me, Trista, and Jackie all being pregnant, we had to snap some belly shots! I think it's hilarious that we all wore leggings and flats. :)

Trista is due May 5th, and I'm due April 29th.

Somehow we managed to fit everything in the bed of the truck to take back to Missouri. My mom spent hours strategically packing everything for us. Couldn't have done it without her! When we finally unpacked everything into our living room, I was SUPER overwhelmed with the amount of baby stuff we had received! It took me the whole evening just to remove tags from the clothes... Doesn't take much to wear me out! We almost have everything put together and put away. I just need to get a hospital bag packed! Thanks to everyone who was able to come, and to those who sent well wishes from afar. I sincerely hope that all of you get to meet this little guy very soon!

Celebrating Our 2nd Anniversary

WOW! I can't believe it's been 2 years since we tied the knot! A lot sure has changed in the past 2 years... We've moved to a different state, took new jobs, met a lot of new people, built a house, and made a baby! It's been an amazing experience, and I've loved (almost) every moment! I think we've learned a lot too. I have mainly learned that without Thomas, I would probably starve or live off of cereal. He has probably learned that I take advantage of his cooking skills. I guess I plan on keeping him around for a while... :)

Our wedding day was one of the best days of my life. I can't say the same for Thomas as he was battling a pretty bad cold that day! Here are some of our favorite moments from 3.19.11!

For our anniversary this year, it appears that we are going to purchase a mutual present... a lawn mower. I can hardly contain my excitement. (not) But we are also going to enjoy dinner and a movie together. We have to take advantage of every chance we get for date night right now before this future child takes over our lives!

Now, I think it's about time for a repeat honeymoon to Mexico! Whose going to babysit???

Happy Birthday Thomas!

Wednesday is Thom's 27th birthday! However, if you ask him how old he is going to be, he will try to calculate it... but will most likely tell you 26. He can't remember how old he is to save his life! I am supposed to close at the pharmacy that night, but luckily my staff pharmacist was able to switch me so I can spend the evening with the birthday boy. We have an awesome night planned... Lifesaver Course for New Parents! Woohoo!

A few weeks ago while I was at work, I got a random text from Thomas saying, "I'm going to see how long it takes before she realizes it." When I asked what the heck he was talking about, his response was, "Lol wrong person." Hmmmmm. Interesting. When I got home that evening, there was a brand new grill in the garage. So that's what his text was about! My headlights shined right on it as I was pulling in. It sure didn't take me long to notice! When I gave him crap about randomly buying a grill without even talking to me about it, he said it was for his birthday. Apparently I'm a very bad gift giver, and he has taken his birthday present shopping upon himself! Oh well, one more thing I get to cross off my list :)

Thom's new toy

Thomas has already been spoiled by friends and family and it isn't even his birthday yet! Thanks for all the birthday cards!

Maddie's birthday is on Saturday. She and her brother, Max, (my parents' dog) will be 4 years old! Can't believe it's been that long already. I still remember the day we went to pick her up. Jackie was with me. When she saw Maddie for the first time, she had a look of horror on her face. Maddie's little tongue was sticking out of her mouth a little, and it looked like two very large front teeth hanging out of her mouth! Jackie couldn't believe I picked out the puppy with buck teeth!

Max (left) & Maddie (right) almost 4 years ago!

Maddie - Notice her blonde eyebrows :)

Maddie all grown up!

Saturday is also my baby shower in Carlinville. I feel like we haven't been home in quite a while, so we are both pretty excited to see some of you (including our future nieces hiding out in their mommy's bellies)!

Guinea Pig

I had my 32 week appointment this afternoon! Besides the hour long wait to be seen, it was a fun appointment. When my doctor came into the room, she had a 3rd year medical student tag-along. This young doctor-to-be seemed very excited to be allowed in the room to observe/learn. I kind of felt like a guinea pig... My OB started her normal routine of checks, but she had an odd face when she measured my belly. She then measured again, and told me that my belly is measuring at 34 weeks! She said sometimes the belly will measure further along if the baby is breech or just in a strange position... She then started feeling my belly to see how he was positioned. She didn't say anything and then asked the med student to try to feel for the baby's position because I was a "good example" to be able to feel body parts of the baby. The girl just grinned from ear to ear. She couldn't hide the extreme joy that she was about to put her hands on a pregnant patient! When feeling for the baby, she was so delicate that I don't know how she felt anything at all! Of course the baby kept pushing right back at her. That really got her excited! I believe she said at one point, "That's a very prominent limb." Eventually we were all laughing because he was going crazy in there, as usual! The med student really didn't figure anything out about his position... just that he likes to push and kick like crazy! So my OB then showed her how you could feel his head very, very low. He is officially head down!

Next, my OB handed the student the doppler so we could hear the heartbeat. Usually, they just stick the wand somewhere down low on my belly, and we can normally hear the heartbeat without even having to move the wand. Well the student, once again, starts feeling my belly. She feels around for a good couple of minutes without even putting the wand on my belly! I was about ready to grab it out of her hand and do it myself! (No wonder they are running an hour behind!) Luckily, my doctor spoke up just in time. Of course, the student then puts the wand at the top of my belly (when we just discovered how low he is hanging out). You could still hear the heartbeat, just not near as loud. Heart rate was in the 140's.

So back to why my belly is measuring ahead of schedule... They determined he is not breech, and he's not in some weird position. To me, that means he is just chunky. And based off the last quick ultrasound we had, his cheeks confirmed that suspicion!

After all of this, the doctor stressed to me that I need to start conserving energy. That's exactly what I wanted to hear! There was no mention of "if you haven't yet started a regular exercise routine, now would be a great time to start..." like she has said at all my previous appointments (to which I just nod as if I've been working out all along). I couldn't wait to tell Thomas the news that I am now restricted to the couch if I'm not at work! Ok maybe I'm taking her advice to the extreme, but he doesn't have to know that! (-;

About a week ago, I took this video while I was trying to sleep. He woke me up with the hiccups, and as you will see, he doesn't like having the hiccups! Disclaimer: I am wearing one of Thom's old t-shirts, so that's why there is a hole in it! Baby G Doesn't Like Hiccups

Spoiler!!!

Soooo up until this week, we were planning on keeping our little boy's name a complete secret until birth. That meant we couldn't hang the initial on the wall in his room because someone might see it! Due to numerous threats of house break-ins from friends dying to know the first initial, we even had to hide the letter in our house! However, we now think it would be more fun to tell everyone the first initial of his first name... So here goes!

Take all the guesses you want, but you will get a random "yup!", "nope", or "maaaaybe" answer every time. :) Hopefully this can satisfy all of you until he's actually here!

Here's a couple more pics from the nursery. This one is the shelf we made. I painted and sanded it so it looks old and rustic.

I hope you all know where the phrase "happy, happy, happy!"
comes from on the little canvas we made! If you don't, you're
missing some very entertaining television...

Here's the deer mount I agreed to put in his room. Thomas is still upset that I chose the smallest of all his mounts and the one that is just a skull and not a full mount. I think he better be thankful I agreed to anything deer-related!!

The last thing we have to finish is a wooden sign to go above his crib. This sign will likely have his first and middle name painted on it, so that won't be posted till after he's born. :)

In the Life of... Thomas

I feel that all of you are in need of an update on my wonderful husband. It's probably been a while since you've seen him, and I know you all need a little more "Thomas" in your lives. :) So here's what's been going on in the Life of Thomas...

The other night when we were heading upstairs to bed, Thomas got light-headed on the stairs. (Note: I was walking up right behind him.) Instead of grabbing the rail and going forward onto his knees like a normal person, he stood straight up, threw his head back, and tried to speed up! Well of course that didn't work out to well. His foot barely touched the step as he was trying to run up, jamming his big toe down on the step he was already on, tripping him up so that he falls to the top of the stairs. He doesn't slow down because, didn't ya know, continuing to run around the kitchen moaning like a dying animal will help you get away from your throbbing toe! I was still standing halfway up the steps just watching him (and counting my blessings that he didn't fall backwards on me!). His toe is now black and blue at the base of the toenail.

I had to work last Sunday at the pharmacy. Thomas texted me a picture of what he woke up to...

They are so in love :)

On Wednesday night, we decided to try a new restaurant in town called Wings Etc. They just recently opened and were very busy, so they gave us a 25 minute wait for a table. We decided to sit at the bar till our table was ready. We went ahead and ordered our food at 6:00pm. By 6:15pm, they had moved us to a table. Between that time and 6:45pm, our waitress checked on our food twice. By 6:50pm, Thomas was getting pretty angry. He was drinking some kind of apple cider beer that was really sweet, and he needed some food in his belly. And they hadn't even brought out my poppyseed salad yet! He told me we were leaving by 7:00 if we didn't have food by then... You would have thought he was the crabby pregnant customer! All I could think about was that I just wanted my salad! So he asked the waitress again about our order, stressing that it had almost been an hour since we ordered and other tables were done eating that were seated after us! Again she heads to the kitchen to check on our ticket. But this time she comes directly back to us (it's now 7:02... We were still there only because I really wanted my poppyseed salad!), and starts apologizing. She says our ticket was lost and the manager is going to speak with us. Within 5 minutes, here comes the manager with our food. He said everything was free and apologized for losing our order. He then asked us if there was anything else we needed... And I think I almost screamed, "My poppyseed salad!!" I couldn't believe they forgot the one thing I desperately wanted. Eventually, I got my salad... and everything was very good. :)

Last night I worked till 9:00pm. Thomas stopped in to shop a little before heading home after work. Not long after he left the pharmacy, I received these texts with pictures of the lock and handle on the gun safe in the garage:

Close-ups of the before and after shots:
Before backing into it
After
What makes this even worse is that I'm constantly begging him to stop backing up as soon as the little "beeper thing" starts beeping to let him know there is something behind the truck. He ignores me, and continues in reverse until the beeping turns into a solid buzz for a couple seconds. If only he would listen to my wisdom once in a while!!

Ok since I have done nothing other than make fun of Thomas, I guess I better redeem myself. If you know me at all, you probably know that cooking is not my best talent. In fact, it's very rare to ever find me in the kitchen. Luckily, I married a man who actually enjoys cooking (or who will at least do it so that we can eat something other than macaroni). The last meal he made for us was baked pineapple and cherry pork chops. Omg, that stuff was amazing! When I asked him where he got the recipe, because I can't make anything without a recipe (i.e. "prescription for food"), he just looked at me like I was crazy! He had just randomly bought pineapple rings and cherries and created the meal all on his own. I was pretty impressed, and I hope Baby Boy G gets the same culinary skills from his father!
